ElectroniCast - Market Forecast of LED Lamps in the U.S.A.

According to ElectroniCast Consultants, the consumption of General Lighting LED lamps in the United States reached $592 million in 2011 (an increase of 22% over 2010).

Upper Lake, CA (USA) – March 27, 2012  -- ElectroniCast Consultants, a leading market research consultancy, today announced the release of a just-completed market review and forecast of the consumption of Light Emitting Diode (LED) lamps in General Lighting applications in the United States of America.

According to ElectroniCast Consultants, the consumption of LED lamps in the United States was $592 million in 2011 (an increase of 22% over 2010). The firm forecasts the consumption value will reach $2.4 billion in the year 2016 representing an average annual growth rate of 32.4% (2011-2016).  Market forecast data in this study report refers to consumption (use) for a particular calendar year; therefore, this data is not cumulative data.

ElectroniCast segments the market into the following major application categories: Government, Commercial/Industrial and Residential.

The market study also breaks-out the forecast by six major lamp types: Parabolic aluminized reflector (PAR), General Service (Type A), Decorative, Multifaceted reflector (MR) Compatible, Linear / Tube, and lamps used in Street-lights/Exterior lighting.  The lamp categories, in turn, may have multiple sub-categories, which are determined by physical size of the lamp (also Watt equivalency in the Type-A category).

“As we look at the A19 lamp segmented by Watt, the 60Watt equivalent LED-based lamp was the clear leader in 2011; however, the 100Watt equivalent lamp is forecast to take the leadership position next year in 2013 in terms of consumption value, even-though the 100W equivalent lamp is a relatively newcomer to the market,” said Stephen Montgomery, Principal Analyst- LED Practice at the consultancy.

“Even though we are forecasting very steep average selling price declines for the A19 (100W) equivalent lamp, we predict the category to increase at an explosive 223% per year (2011-2016), eventually taking the market share lead away from the 60Watt LED lamp in the A19 product category ” Montgomery added.

In terms of consumption value, the Parabolic aluminized reflector (PAR) lamp is forecast with double-digit growth (2011-2016), the unit (quantity) growth will be partially offset by the price declines.

The Multifaceted Reflector (MR) compatible is forecast for very impressive growth, as the LED solution finds a way to provide equivalent brightness (versus the halogen MR lamp) and competitive pricing.

LED-based Decorative lamps are forecast to increase at well-over 40% per year. The incandescent lamp (bulb) is being phased-out of the marketplace; however, the little decorative incandescent bulbs are immune from this governmental mandate for the near-term.  Decorative lamps with small candelabra bases are exempt from the phase-out up to 60 watts. Decorative lamps with standard or medium-screw bases are exempt up to 40 watts. Large globe incandescent lamps used in bathroom vanities (for example) will still be available.

The LED-based Linear (Tube) Lamp, which is an emerging competitor of the fluorescent tube, is forecast to increase in quantity at a very impressive annual growth of over 90%.

The street lamp category includes lamps specifically sold for the purpose of walkway, campus, parking-lot lamps, which are similar (exterior) lamps, which are typically affixed on a pole/mast (there are exceptions to the rule – for example roadway lighting in tunnels).

  1. I think that may be correct, though the led lampen e14 are sure to give a kick in on the market given how cheap they are and their quality.
